Who writes History Candle
Kamran Taghiyev writes and edits every article on this site and produces the short documentaries on the History Candle YouTube channel. He is not an academic historian, and the site does not pretend otherwise: History Candle is a reader's publication, written for people who want the parts of history that rarely reach the classroom, told in full sentences rather than bullet points.
He also runs Easy Marketing School, MyEasyCV and the animation studio Animators. History Candle is the one that exists for its own sake.
How the articles are researched
- Published archaeology and history first. Articles on Cahokia and the Mississippian culture draw on the excavation record and on the work of scholars such as Timothy Pauketat; the Norse material follows the L'Anse aux Meadows reports and the 2021 tree-ring dating. Where a claim rests on a single source, the article says so.
- Standard names, stated plainly. "Medieval America" is our shorthand; the articles give the archaeological terms (pre-Columbian, Woodland, Mississippian) so readers can go further on their own.
- Legends are labelled as legends. Madoc, Saint Brendan and the Vinland Map get articles because readers ask about them, and each one says clearly what the evidence does and does not support.
- Dates are shown. Every article carries its publication date and, when revised, its last-updated date.
Corrections
If you find an error of fact, a missing source or a claim that has since been overturned, write through the contact page. Corrections are made in the article itself and the last-updated date is changed. We would rather fix a paragraph than defend it.
